ROCK AND RAIN

We thought we had struck gold when we registered for Rock and Run, envisioned as the country's first rock-concert-cum-night-run. Well you see, with the promise of being able to witness big name bands such as The Dawn, Kjwan, Taken By Cars, Brigada, Techyromantics, Coffee Break Island and many more while doing a marathon, it was as if the Haligi and I had hit the jackpot.

Last Saturday's run was probably the most memorable race that the Haligi and I have participated in to date. And I mean that in a not-so-good-way.

Thanks to our tropical weather, what was envisioned to be one helluva run ended in disaster. Why? Well because this big running event was overshadowed by something bigger--thick, ominous rainclouds, and worse, heavy downpour!

Because of this, the participants kissed the hopes of experiencing a live rock concert while running, goodbye. And Murphy must've worked overtime that day. You see, not only did we fail to hear our favorite bands play, we and our MP3 players also got soaked to the core. We dodged cars left and right. We missed the services of road mashalls (what road marshalls???). We had minimal fluid intake from the water stations (again, what water stations?!?!). And finally, we endured lots of detours because of the flooded race route.

But may I just say, that despite all these, it was one helluva run. Never mind if it was so un-glam (thank God for waterproof caps and yes, mukafs! lol!) and unsanitary (kachichas to the highest level lang!). Running in the rain brings back fond memories of my childhood. It was so much fun! And even if I haven't seen the race results yet (another letdown), I think I might have clocked in my best time evarrr.

I didn't get to take a lot of photos for this particular run (oh boy was I thankful that I decided not to run with my camera me!). Just imagining my poor LX3 drenched to the core gives me the creeps. So here are some photos that we managed to snap right after the race.

Clear skies, finally...

Meet the future flu victims. Hehehe...
I gotta hand it to these guys, the Rock and Run-ers were probably some of the most "game" and patient race participants that I have seen to date.
Tada, concert by candlelight. Hehehe...Of course, no race will be complete without our requisite shot against the race backdrop (uhm, what backdrop???)...
Save for a few "undesirables", I'd like to think that this last rainy run was still a goldmine, so, thank you, Rock and Run for the memories. You still owe me my race results though. And next time, please include a poncho and some cough syrup in your race kit. Hehehe.
