This show, which airs while Gossip Girl is on season break, tells the story of Lux (Britt Robertson), a street-smart but still essentially innocent foster kid who seeks out her birth parents on the cusp of her 16th birthday to secure her emancipation. They turn out to be Cate Cassidy ( Shiri Appleby), relationship-phobic radio talent who has reluctantly become engaged to her handsome radio co-host, and Baze (Kristoffer Polaha), a standard-issue man-boy and booze hound who lives above the bar he owns.As it turns out, Lux is the product of one wild prom night between her then star quarterback dad and her school brainiac mom. The odd couple and reluctant parents must now resume their passionately hostile relationship and come to terms with the fact that they have a wisecracking, world-weary daughter.
"Life Unexpected" doesn't arrive without loopholes and you would find yourself occasionally having to suspend your disbelief. But it doesn't matter. The lead characters in "Life Unexpected" are so likable, and the interactions between them feel so natural, that you find yourself willing to give the show lots of slack.
So if you are on the lookout for a lovable and entertaining hour filled with some insights on the complicated ties of friends, family, desire and regret, then I dare say, this show is for you. Happy watching.
