Amidst the merry-making of the season, we are hounded by stories of accidents, crime, even death. We are reminded how life, even with the most sophisticated health plans, can easily be snuffed out of us in an instant.Friday night, we were shocked by the Sucat shootout which caused the death of innocent bystanders. The casualties included a father and his seven-year-old daughter who were on their way to pick up his wife from work. Just imagine kissing your loved ones goodbye, not knowing it would be your last. Me shudders.
Not so long ago, my officemates and I were involved in a vehicular accident, hitting a boy who came out of nowhere at the Quezon highway. The boy was about my son's age and was running towards his mother who was doing the laundry on the other side of the road. It was one of the most agonizing moments of my life, moreso because I was right at the passenger's seat when that mishap occured.
Years ago, my father too was also involved in a road accident, which almost caused him his right ear when his car did a turnturtle at the North Expressway. Again, a close call.
I say a prayer each day for every additional chance to spend with my loved ones. I try to make each moment as meaningful and as worthwhile as possible. May each day with yours be as meaningful too.
